Originally from Derbyshire, I made North Devon my home in 1998 where I employed my artistic skills decorating pottery and working for a picture framers. I had recently completed a BA Hons Degree in Graphic Design in which I specialised in traditional illustration.
I was introduced to the traditional practise of Life Drawing during my Art Foundation year and I have attended numerous classes since then. I find that observing the figure really trains the eye and develops your observational skills. I intend to post my weekly drawings and thoughts in a Life-Drawing Blog to give a taster of this experience. I enjoy using a variety of different media including charcoal, pastel, pencil and watercolour. I try techniques such as monoprinting to convey the essence of structure and form of the human body. |
The work of other artists has always been an inspiration. I learned extensively about the History of Art during my studies and it is something I that will continue to interest me. On my travels I will always seek out a different gallery to visit, whether it be a national museum or a small studio tucked away in a street.
I have exhibited my artwork in various locations in North Devon and I am very excited to be part of the lively artist and crafter group Exmoor Arts and will be exhibiting regularly with them in various locations in Devon. While living in Devon I have been lucky enough to meet and observe the work of several local artists including Colin Allbrook, Mick Cawston and Brian Andrew. |
My other favourite subjects are wildlife and animals in which I aim to convey the animal’s natural character, unique markings and personality.
I am also available for commissions of animals in most types of media where I work from photographs. Please see my Commissions page for a Gallery of completed portraits, a current Price List and more information on how to order a beautiful custom portrait. |
