Commissioning A Portrait
As an artist I have painted many portraits of pets and companion animals including dogs, cats and horses, some of these can be seen in my Commissions Gallery. Creating a beautiful portrait takes several stages and I have detailed these below as a guideline to the process.
The aim is to capture the unique character and personality of your pet.
Meeting Your Pet
The first stage of creating a piece of art is to meet the subject! Of the paintings I have created, I have worked from my own reference photographs. I always prefer to meet your pet in order to find out more about his or her character and any features to take note of while creating my portrait (this could be unusual markings or eye colour). I will usually travel to visit you (within a 20 mile radius of my home) and take digital photographs of your pet outdoors in a familiar, natural surrounding. This ensures that your pet is comfortable and results in better photographs.
Working From Photographs
If meeting your pet is not possible, I can work from photographs that have been provided by yourself, but they MUST be of good quality and show your pet clearly. Please see Guide To Photographing Your Pet.
